Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam appeared before the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CID) this morning to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation.
Kariyawasam was summoned over remarks he allegedly made concerning Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya.
The inquiry was initiated on the instructions of the IGP following reports of statements allegedly made by Kariyawasam regarding an alleged threat against the police chief.
The CID has launched a formal investigation into the matter, with authorities treating the allegations as serious.
