Sri Lanka’s dengue death toll has risen to 68 this year, with the case fatality rate reported at 0.075%, according to the latest surveillance data from the National Dengue Control Unit.
As of midnight on August 12, a total of 91,059 dengue cases have been reported across the country in 2026.
July recorded the highest monthly caseload with 29,971 cases, followed by June with 21,533 and May with 8,590. August has already recorded 5,714 cases.
At district level, Gampaha has reported the highest number of cases at 19,406, accounting for 21.31% of the national total. Colombo follows closely with 18,901 cases, or 20.76%.
Other districts with high case numbers include Kandy with 8,146, Matara with 6,318, and Kalutara with 5,998 cases.
The Western Province remains the country’s main dengue hotspot, accounting for more than half of all reported cases, with 48,244 cases (52.98%).
The Southern Province has recorded 13,146 cases (14.44%), while the Central Province has reported 10,234 cases (11.24%).
Health authorities have identified 119 high-risk MOH areas during Week 31 of 2026, with the country recording an average of 1,509 new dengue cases per day.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, particularly in industrial and urban areas where conditions can support mosquito breeding.
Health officials stressed that sustained community participation and coordinated mosquito-control measures are essential to curb the continued spread of dengue.
