A member of the Rajapaksa family has denied reports that former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka despite having already been summoned by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).
The family member claimed that Shiranthi Rajapaksa had not received any prior summons from the FCID before arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport.
According to the family member, she travelled directly to the airport from a private hospital ahead of her scheduled departure.
The family member said her flight was scheduled to depart at 12:50 a.m., and that an airport official handed her an FCID letter near the boarding gate.
“There had been no previous summons from the FCID asking her to appear and provide a statement,” the family member was quoted as saying.
The family member therefore maintained that the notice was received only after Rajapaksa had reached the airport and was preparing to leave the country.
The comments were released to the media by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Media Unit.
The claims come amid reports concerning an FCID inquiry involving Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
