Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (28), the Department of Meteorology said.
Showers or thundershowers may also occur in several parts of the Uva and Eastern provinces, along with the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, after 2.00 p.m.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions against possible damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers are expected in several sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Showers or thundershowers may develop in several sea areas from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the evening or night.
Winds are expected to be south-westerly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds could occasionally increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Those sea areas are expected to be fairly rough at times, while temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
