The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for afternoon thundershowers across most parts of Sri Lanka from today (01).

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as in the Mannar District.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur in a few sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the evening or night.

Winds are expected to be southwesterly, with speeds of 20–30 kmph.

Sea areas around the island will remain slight. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
