Former Colombo Municipal Council member Mahinda Kahandagama has been arrested by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau over the alleged possession of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice.”
According to police, Kahandagama was arrested near a restaurant in the Mirihana area on Monday night (Oct. 5).
Police said a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine was recovered from his possession at the time of the arrest.
Preliminary investigations have reportedly revealed that the suspect may have been involved in drug trafficking for some time, police said.
Meanwhile, another individual suspected of being connected to the alleged drug operation has also been arrested by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau. A quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine was reportedly recovered from that suspect as well.
Further investigations are being conducted by police.
