The Department of Wildlife Conservation has confirmed that veterinary treatment is being provided to a sick elephant calf in the Wewelketiya area of Medawachchiya.
According to the Department, officials from the Pandulagama Wildlife Veterinary Unit attended to the ailing calf and provided further medical treatment yesterday (21).
Photographs released by the Department show the elephant calf lying on the ground as wildlife veterinary personnel carry out treatment.
However, the Department has not yet disclosed further details about the calf’s condition or the cause of its illness.
