Iran has said security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz could be restored and negotiations could begin within a short period if the United States agrees to its demands.

Tehran said accepting its conditions would pave the way for restoring security in the vital shipping route and restarting the diplomatic process.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has warned that the war against Iran will end “very soon, one way or the other”, insisting that Tehran must either reach an agreement with Washington or face further military action.

Trump warned that “the hammer” would come down if Iran failed to agree to a deal.

Amid the escalating tensions, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that two crude oil tankers caught fire after striking sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The incident comes as Gulf nations condemn Friday’s attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said discussions with mediators over a proposed two-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are continuing.

He also expressed hope that the United States would demonstrate sufficient willingness to pursue diplomacy and reach an agreement.
