President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that Sri Lanka is no longer considered bankrupt by the world, following the approval of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) by the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Executive Board.
According to President Wickremesinghe, the loan facility serves as an assurance that Sri Lanka can restructure its debt and resume normal financial transactions.
Furthermore, he said that his government plans to gradually lift import restrictions on essential goods, medicines, and tourism-related goods, as the Forex situation improves.
Moreover, President Wickremesinghe expressed gratitude to all countries that supported the IMF agreement.
He announced that he plans to present a full statement on the matter in Parliament tomorrow, March 22.
