Under the sponsorship of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, the national Iftar event for Muslims was held yesterday (18) afternoon at Temple Trees. Ramadan is a month of fasting.
A blessing for racial harmony also occurred there.
In the same way that Muslims have actively contributed to the development of national unity during the previous decades, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena exhorted Muslims to help Sri Lanka move forward and become affluent.
The Prime Minister made the point that Ramadan’s fasting period helps Muslims develop their spiritual power and fosters international unity.
The President and Prime Minister gave religious leaders from the Islamic community who spoke at the event commemorative trinkets.
