The government has not mandated the purchase of any sort of fertilizer from the vouchers granted for the purchase of fertilizers for paddy cultivation in the “Yala” season, according to the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gunadasa Samarasinghe.
Samarasinghe disproved recent claims made to the media by various farmer groups in two districts that it is now required to use 30% chemical fertilizer and 70% organic fertilizer for agriculture, as well as that particular types of fertilizer are now required.
The Ministry of Agriculture further said that, depending on their preferences, farmers can purchase chemical or organic fertilizers using vouchers issued by the government as subsidies for fertilizer purchases during this “Yala season.”
