The PUCSL is said to have given its clearance for the required pricing changes, which the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has purportedly notified with effect from July.
The PUCSL stated that this will result in a reduction of 26.9% in the rate charged for each unit of electricity for the first 30 units.
Moreover, the tariff for units consumed between 31 and 60 will be cut by 10.8%, while the price for units consumed between 31 and 60 will be reduced by 7.2%, and the tariff for units consumed between 91 and 180 will be reduced by 3.4%.
Additionally, a 1.3% discount will be applied to the price per unit of electricity for the category of over 180 units.
The PUCSL also noted a 3.2% reduction in electricity rates for places of worship.
The power tariff prices for the category of industries, public categories, street lighting, and government institutions won’t alter in the interim.
According to the PUCSL, however, the power rate would also be decreased for the hotel category by 12.6%.
