The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has expressed worry over the recent deaths at the General Hospital in Badulla, stating that 770 people were confirmed to have died of heart attacks out of the 1,883 postmortems performed in the past year.
Speaking on the subject, GMOA Deputy Secretary Dr Palitha Rajapaksha blamed the lack of an angiography equipment for the high rate of heart attack mortality.
Only 750 of the 2,179 patients hospitalised to the cardiac unit in the previous year were able to get an angiography. He also said that heart attacks were to blame for approximately 40% of hospital mortality.
