According to State Newspaper Dinamina, the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) disclosed that it had unearthed preparations by ISIS to carry out bomb strikes against multiple locations in Colombo on Thursday (Oct. 5), when it presented information to Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe.
The TID reported that it has come to light that the plot was developed by a group of detainees connected to ISIS who are being held in Sri Lankan jails for involvement in terrorism.
The Pallekele prison inmate who had information of the terrorist plot threw a letter with details to the Thanekumbura police checkpoint, the court was informed.
Investigations have shown that the terrorist attack’s planning team attacked the prisoner after the latter overheard their chat about the bomb strikes that were being planned through mobile phone conversations.
As he was being transported from Pallekele to Mahara, the prisoner is said to have thrown a letter at the police checkpoint that contained information on the terrorist plot, including the names of the other prisoners participating and their mobile phone numbers.
The TID asked the court to let the accused convicts to be questioned in this regard, stating that an inquiry had been opened into the aforementioned letter.
