The Sri Lankan Army has sent 600 men to the Matara district to assist in flood rescue efforts.
Due to the Nilwala River flooding brought on by the constant torrential rains, several roads in Matara are under water. The National Building and Research Organisation (NBRO) has also issued ‘Red’ alert landslip warnings for a number of locations within the Matara district.
According to the District Disaster Management Committee, all schools in the Matara district will also be closed till October 10.
