The government of Sri Lanka has received praise for quickly stabilising the economy and achieving progress from Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Komura Masahiro, who also pledged that his nation would continue to support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery process.

He has also voiced confidence that the government’s structural reforms will make it easier for foreign investments to flourish.

The Japanese Vice-Minister stated that his trip to Sri Lanka to attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) has given him the chance to speak with Sri Lankan leadership about bilateral cooperation during his conversation with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena this morning (Oct. 10). He promised Sri Lanka the IORA’s full assistance during its two-year chairmanship.

The Prime Minister emphasised the significance of close cooperation between the two countries with similar values, pointing out that Sri Lanka is situated at a strategic intersection along the sea lanes of the Indian Ocean and is a key partner in implementing a free and open Indo-Pacific policy.

The Covid-19 pandemic had caused a global economic depression, he added, and the world, particularly the developing countries, could not withstand another such catastrophe over a military confrontation. He expressed his grave concern over the escalation of conflict in the Gaza Stripe.

He also urged the two sides to the issue to put an end to the violence right away, according to a statement from the PM’s Office.
