A minor flood warning of “Amber” level has been issued by the Department of Irrigation for a few low-lying regions in the Deduru Oya valley.

As of 6 a.m. today (30), a significant amount of rainfall had been recorded in sections of the Upstream, Middle Reach, and Downstream catchment areas of the Deduru Oya Basin, according to the flood warning bulletin, which is in effect until 9.30 a.m. tomorrow (31).

Furthermore, the Irrigation Department stated that the Deduru Oya reservoir, which it maintains, is currently discharging at a rate of 14,000 cubic feet per second, and that the reservoir’s spill release may be increased in the future.
