New hotline to complain about rice sold above MRP

A new hotline has been established by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) for customers to file complaints against retail store owners who sell rice for more than the maximum retail price (MRP).

Lankadeepa claims that the CAA has asked customers to use the hotline number 1977 to file concerns.

A kilogramme of red or white Nadu rice costs Rs. 220, a kilogramme of Keeri Samba rice is Rs. 260, a kilogramme of Samba rice is Rs. 230, and a kilogramme of red or white Kekulu rice is Rs. 210, according to the CAA.

The CAA issued a warning, stating that raids have begun to capture retail store owners selling rice over the MRP. The fine for those who are apprehended will be at least Rs. 100,000.
