Around 350 students have reportedly encircled the administrative building of Kelaniya University.
The students staged a protest, blocking the Colombo-Kandy road on the night of January 29.
Police responded by deploying tear gas and water cannons to disperse the gathering.
The reasons behind the student protest and the current situation remain under investigation.
