A Hamas official says truce discussions that took place in Egypt were “positive and good”.

Negotiations were conducted along with Egyptian and Qatari mediators on a new Gaza ceasefire and captive-prisoner exchange.

“The delegation left Cairo tonight [Friday] and is awaiting Israel’s response,” a Hamas official told AFP news agency on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak on the issue.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken – after failing to achieve a truce deal this week – says “a lot” of work remains but added he still sees “space for agreement to be reached” to halt the fighting.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a Hamas proposal, calling it “delusional”, adding victory in the war is in sight while announcing a major ground operation on Rafah city is imminent.
