MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has penned a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing grave concern over the escalating incidents of attacks on fishermen from Tamil Nadu by unidentified individuals and their subsequent arrests by Sri Lankan authorities.

Stalin urged PM Modi to intervene urgently to secure the release of 88 fishermen and 12 boats detained by Sri Lanka for allegedly trespassing in its waters in the past month.

He highlighted the impact on the fishermen’s livelihoods and the financial distress caused by the nationalisation of their seized boats without proper compensation.

Stalin called for diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue, urging the Sri Lankan government to withdraw the nationalisation of Indian fishing boats and release them immediately.

He also proposed the formation of a joint working group to address the ongoing challenges faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen.

The letter underscores the urgency of the matter and seeks prompt action to ensure the safety and well-being of Tamil fishermen.
