Fourth Stage of Indian Housing Initiative for Plantation Sector Laborers Inaugurated

A ceremony took place at the Presidential Secretariat on Monday (19 Feb.) to mark the commencement of a housing initiative funded by the Government of India aimed at constructing 10,000 residences for plantation sector workers.

As part of the fourth phase of India’s housing endeavor in Sri Lanka’s plantation sector, the plan includes the development of 1,300 houses spread across 45 estates situated in ten districts.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe participated virtually in the event alongside Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, as reported by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

On 28 November 2023, the High Commission of India signed two significant agreements for the construction of 10,000 houses in plantation regions of Sri Lanka under the fourth phase of the Indian Housing Project.
