Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara, has raised concerns over increased drug addiction among Sri Lankans in Israel following the legalization of drug trafficking. He warned that such issues could impact job opportunities for Sri Lankan workers.
He also criticized Sri Lankans forming protest groups on social media, stating that such actions harm their reputation. Additionally, he cautioned against changing workplaces, which could lead to visa cancellations.
The statement was made during an online meeting for 217 Sri Lankans set to leave for construction jobs in Israel between March 10 and 25. So far, 6,096 Sri Lankans have secured construction jobs, with 1,018 already departing since January 2025.
