Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe should undergo urgent heart surgery, according to Dr. Rukshan Bellana, the Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital. Speaking to Ada Derana, Dr. Bellana stated that Wickremesinghe’s condition is deteriorating due to a blockage in his coronary arteries, which has weakened his heart.
Dr. Bellana explained that while the surgery could be performed at the Colombo National Hospital, the waiting list can be as long as three years. He noted that due to the urgency of his condition, Wickremesinghe has the option to undergo the procedure at a private hospital, bearing the cost himself for a quicker operation. The surgery is expected to restore his heart to normal function.
Wickremesinghe, who was released on bail yesterday (26), is reportedly set to receive medical treatment at the Colombo National Hospital in the coming days, his office stated. Following his treatment, the former president plans to invite all political parties for discussions.
The statement from his office also conveyed Wickremesinghe’s gratitude to all who supported the movement to end what he called “the unconstitutional autocracy” since the time of his arrest.
