The second meeting of the Israel–Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Association held at the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) has opened avenues for cooperation, including the prospect of training opportunities in Israel for officials of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara, announced.

During the discussions, Ambassador Bandara also raised the issue of Sri Lankans residing in Israel without valid visas, noting that the matter has been referred to the Committee on Foreign Workers of the Israeli Parliament for further consideration at its next session. He stressed that undocumented migrant challenges affect not only Sri Lankans but also other foreign communities working in Israel.

The meeting placed special emphasis on strengthening parliamentary-level cooperation, with training for Sri Lankan parliamentary officials highlighted as a key area for future collaboration.

The session was attended by Dr. Tsega Melaku, President of the Israel–Sri Lanka Friendship Association, officials from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Knesset’s Foreign Policy Division, and Hemantha Ekanayake, Deputy Chief of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel.
