The Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, Lasantha Wickramasekera, popularly known as “Midigama Lasa,” was shot at by two unidentified gunmen this morning.
According to police, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire while Wickramasekera was seated in his official chair at the Pradeshiya Sabha office.
He sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the shooting.
