Sri Lanka’s international aviation sector is gearing up for a surge in activity this winter, with several global carriers set to resume or launch operations at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA).

Kuwait Airways will resume its scheduled flights to BIA from October 27, 2025, operating four flights per week, reconnecting Colombo with key destinations in the Middle East.

At the same time, Red Wings Airlines and Belavia – Belarusian Airlines will begin their winter flight operations to MRIA starting October 28, 2025, signalling renewed interest in southern Sri Lanka as a regional hub for tourism and charter travel.

Also joining the winter schedule at BIA are Swiss International Air Lines and Enter Air, both commencing their services on October 28, 2025, further diversifying the airport’s European connectivity.

In anticipation of the seasonal passenger surge, Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka (Private) Ltd has announced the installation of 12 new check-in counters at BIA, effective November 1, 2025, as part of short-term measures to streamline passenger handling during the peak season.

The upcoming months are expected to see a notable rise in international arrivals, reflecting Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a travel destination and the ongoing recovery of its aviation and tourism industries.
