Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced yesterday that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved Sri Lanka’s decision to sign the United Nations Convention against Cybercrimes (UNCC), which was adopted at the UN General Assembly in December 2024.
The joint Cabinet proposal was presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Digital Economy, together with the Ministers of Justice and National Integration, and Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism.
Dr. Jayatissa said Sri Lanka’s participation in the convention will significantly strengthen the country’s ability to prevent and combat cybercrimes, enhance cross-border cooperation, recover illicit assets, and provide better protection for victims and witnesses.
He added that joining the UNCC will also help Sri Lanka improve access to modern technology and build national capacity to address emerging cyber threats more effectively.
