Sri Lanka seeks Omani investment in fisheries development

Minister of Fisheries Ramalingam Chandrasekar recently met Omani Ambassador Ahmed Ali Said Rashidi in Colombo for talks on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fisheries sector.

The discussion focused on attracting new investments and expanding technical collaboration, with the Ambassador outlining opportunities available through the Oman Investment Authority.

Minister Chandrasekar sought greater Omani support to uplift Sri Lanka’s fisheries industry, noting efforts to revive the sector amid the country’s post-crisis economic recovery. He also thanked Oman for its assistance to Sri Lankan migrant workers.

Officials also explored the possibility of joint boat-building ventures via Cey-Nor and closer cooperation between marine research institutions in both countries.

The Omani Ambassador extended an invitation for an official visit, with both sides agreeing to advance proposed initiatives.
