The Ministry of Education Sri Lanka has announced that all schools across the country will remain closed every Wednesday due to ongoing fuel supply issues.

Secretary to the Ministry, Nalaka Kaluwewa, stated that the decision was taken in line with the government’s earlier move to grant weekly leave to public servants on Wednesdays.

He confirmed that the directive applies not only to government schools but also to all government-approved private institutions.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Essential Services, Prabath Chandrakirthi, said that conducting extra tuition classes on Wednesdays has also been prohibited.

He further noted that Wednesdays will be treated as a public holiday for government offices, including judicial institutions, schools and universities.
