Sri Lanka will host the internationally recognized Walk for Peace pilgrimage from April 21 to 28, 2026, with full state patronage.
The programme will feature a delegation of monks led by the Most Venerable Pannakara Thero, who is expected to take part in the procession carrying a sacred Bodhi sapling obtained from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
According to the Department of Government Information, the symbolic act is intended to inspire thousands of participants while showcasing the country’s rich Buddhist heritage.
The initiative is being supported by a broad network of state and private institutions, including the Presidential Secretariat, the Clean Sri Lanka programme, the Ministry of Buddhist, Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, as well as the Tri-Forces, Police, and the National Design Centre.
Authorities say the collective involvement reflects the national significance of the pilgrimage and its message of peace and unity.
