The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today (30).
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is expected in parts of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Central Province, and North Central Province, as well as in the Trincomalee District. Morning showers are also likely in parts of the Southern Province and Kalutara District.
Misty conditions are expected in several areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North Central, and Uva Province.
The public has been advised to take precautions against possible damage from strong localized winds and lightning during thundershowers.
At sea, showers or thundershowers are expected in coastal areas stretching from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-westerly at speeds of 25–35 km/h, increasing up to 45 km/h at times in sea areas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
Sea conditions are expected to be fairly rough in these areas, while other surrounding seas will be slight to moderate. Temporary strong gusts and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers, the department added.
