Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has delivered a major electoral breakthrough, with his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerging as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026.
According to official results from the Election Commission of India, all 234 seats have been declared, with the majority mark set at 118.
TVK secured 108 seats in its debut election, narrowly missing an outright majority but establishing itself as the dominant political force in the state. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance won 73 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led alliance secured 53 seats. Other parties, including the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), failed to win any seats.
The result marks one of the most dramatic political debuts in Tamil Nadu’s history, significantly disrupting the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
Vijay’s surge has been driven by strong backing from youth and urban voters, along with a campaign focused on change and anti-establishment messaging.
With 108 seats, TVK is now well-positioned to form the next government, depending on post-election alliances or external support.
Addressing supporters after the results, Vijay described the outcome as a “people’s victory” and “the beginning of a new political era” in Tamil Nadu, expressing confidence in forming an administration.
