Sri Lanka has recorded 82,838 dengue cases so far this year, with July emerging as the worst-affected month, reporting 27,464 infections, according to the latest figures from health authorities.
The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said 61 dengue-related deaths have been reported to date, while the country’s case fatality rate stands at 0.07%.
The latest surveillance data has identified 175 high-risk Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas during Week 29, with an average of 2,391 new dengue cases reported each day.
The Western Province continues to be the country’s dengue hotspot, accounting for 43,884 cases, representing more than half of all infections reported this year. Within the province, Gampaha District has recorded the highest number of cases at 17,600, followed by Colombo with 16,457.
Outside the Western Province, Kandy (4,847 cases), Matara (4,728) and Kalutara (4,598) remain among the districts with the highest number of infections.
Meanwhile, the Southern Province has reported 12,197 cases, while the Sabaragamuwa Province has recorded 9,112 infections. In contrast, Mannar (89 cases) and Mullaitivu (49 cases) continue to report the lowest dengue case numbers.
Health authorities have once again urged the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites around their homes and workplaces and to seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as fever, in an effort to curb the spread of the disease.
