Saudi Arabia Appoints First Woman as Consul General

Saudi Arabia has appointed Wafa bint Abdullah Al-Marzouqi as the country’s first female Consul General, marking a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s diplomatic representation.

Al-Marzouqi took the official oath of office before Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan following her appointment as Consul General in Houston, Texas, in the United States.

During the ceremony, she pledged allegiance to her religion and country and vowed to safeguard state secrets, protect Saudi Arabia’s interests and institutions at home and abroad, and carry out her duties with honesty, integrity and sincerity.

The appointment is being viewed as a notable development in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to expand the participation of women in senior diplomatic and government positions.
