Wildlife veterinarians have reported signs of improvement in the condition of Kawanthissa, the elephant undergoing treatment after sustaining gunshot injuries in the Siyambalangamuwa area.
According to the Department of Wildlife Conservation, a veterinary team continued treating the elephant on Sunday (27), while officials observed that the swelling around the injured area had reduced.
The veterinary team, led by Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. Isuru Hewakottage, is providing the necessary medical care as wildlife officials closely monitor Kawanthissa’s condition.
Officials have also observed that the elephant is currently spending more time in the water.
The Department of Wildlife Conservation said wildlife officers, under the guidance of the veterinary team, are continuing their efforts to provide Kawanthissa with the required treatment and care.
