The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory for several areas across the country, effective until 11.30 p.m. today (02).
The advisory covers the North Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western and North Central provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara and Mannar districts.
According to the Meteorology Department, red alerts have been issued for 17 districts, while amber alerts are in effect for eight districts.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected in several areas within the affected districts. Temporary, localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers.
The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage and injury caused by lightning activity.
