“Minister of Public Security Tiran Alas has announced that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended an individual responsible for spreading slander on social media platforms.
The suspect is accused of conducting malicious smear campaigns with the backing of a politician, as disclosed by Minister Alas during a program held in Panadura on Saturday.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of Rs. 400,000 at the time of arrest.
Minister Alas emphasized the importance of the Online Safety Act in combating such activities, citing concerns that these campaigns could potentially influence political landscapes.
While the minister did not disclose names during the event, he hinted that further details would be revealed in the future.
