United States President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, delaying a planned military strike to allow more time for Tehran to present a proposal to end the conflict.

The decision, revealed on Tuesday, comes at the request of mediators from Pakistan. The ceasefire had been due to expire on Wednesday.

In a statement shared on social media, Trump said he had instructed the US military to maintain its blockade while remaining fully prepared, adding that the ceasefire would continue until Iran submits its proposal and discussions are concluded.

The announcement suggests an open-ended extension of the truce from the US side, though Iran has yet to issue an official response. The semi-official Tasnim news agency indicated that Tehran’s position will be announced later.

The move marks a sudden shift in stance by Trump, who had earlier expressed opposition to extending the ceasefire and warned of imminent military action against Iran’s infrastructure.

Tensions remain high as Iranian officials have criticized the US naval blockade, casting uncertainty over their participation in planned talks.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the decision, thanking Trump and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing a negotiated resolution to the conflict.
