Cathay Pacific has confirmed that 10 people sustained minor injuries after one of its flights from Australia to Hong Kong encountered severe turbulence mid-air.

The incident involved Flight CX156, operated by an Airbus A350-900, travelling from Brisbane Airport to Hong Kong International Airport.

According to reports, the turbulence struck approximately two hours before landing while cabin crew were serving meals, causing food carts and other cabin items to be thrown across the aircraft.

The airline stated that six cabin crew members and four passengers suffered minor injuries during the incident. Following the aircraft’s safe landing in Hong Kong, eight injured individuals were taken to hospital for precautionary medical examinations.

Passengers onboard described the turbulence as sudden and severe, with some comparing the experience to a “free fall”.

Cathay Pacific said medical teams attended the aircraft upon arrival and confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

The aircraft landed safely at Hong Kong International Airport without any further issues.
