President AKD Mourns Passing of Qatar’s Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has conveyed his condolences following the passing of Qatar’s Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, praising his lasting contribution to the nation’s development.

In a message shared on X, the President said Sheikh Hamad’s visionary leadership and dedicated service to Qatar would be remembered for generations.

On behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka, President Dissanayake extended his deepest sympathies to the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Royal Family, and the people of Qatar.

“May his soul rest in peace,” the President said.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, widely regarded as the architect of Qatar’s transformation into a modern and globally influential nation, died at the age of 74. His death was announced on Sunday, and he was laid to rest in Doha following a simple funeral ceremony held after the evening prayer at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque.
