The Ministry of Labour has dismissed as false social media claims alleging that Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Prananthu had proposed banning religious pilgrimages to Dambadiva and Thailand.
In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the Minister had never made such a statement, stressing that the reports circulating online are entirely fabricated.
The Ministry further alleged that the misinformation is being spread by groups with narrow political motives aimed at disrupting Sri Lanka’s social, political, and religious harmony.
Expressing strong concern over the incident, the Ministry said it “deeply regrets and strongly condemns” the dissemination of what it described as baseless and misleading propaganda.
