Andy Burnham has officially become the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister, succeeding Sir Keir Starmer and becoming the country’s fifth prime minister in four years.
In his first speech outside 10 Downing Street, Burnham acknowledged growing public frustration with politics and vowed to restore confidence in government.
“I know people are fed up with politics,” he said, adding that he wants this to be “a circuit breaker for Britain.”
Burnham also pledged to transform the country’s political culture, saying his government would make politics “more collaborative” and focused on solving problems rather than political point-scoring.
The leadership change follows the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer, whose Labour Party secured victory in the 2024 general election. Burnham officially took office after being invited by King Charles III to form a new government.
