Former Minister and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake appeared before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on Monday (Aug. 31), following a recent visit by commission officials to his residence.
A team of CIABOC officials had visited Karunanayake’s residence on Parliament Road on Saturday morning after he failed to appear before the commission as requested in connection with an investigation.
However, Karunanayake’s media team denied that he had intentionally avoided appearing before CIABOC.
According to the media team, Karunanayake had been instructed to appear before the commission but was unable to attend on the scheduled date. His legal representatives had subsequently requested that another date be provided for his appearance.
The CIABOC officials reportedly left the residence after finding that Karunanayake was not in Colombo at the time.
Authorities have not officially disclosed the nature of the investigation for which Karunanayake was summoned.
