Sri Lanka’s second metro bus depot, located in Kadawatha, officially commenced operations today under the management of Lanka Metro Transit (Private) Company, established as part of efforts to modernize and improve the country’s public transport system.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, the Kadawatha depot forms part of a broader plan to expand metro bus services across the Western Province.

As part of the expansion programme, new running yards are planned for Ratmalana, while central workstations are expected to be established in Talangama and Homagama.

The ministry said the introduction of a dedicated depot system is expected to streamline operations, improve fleet management and enhance the overall efficiency of metro bus services.

Meanwhile, 104 new metro buses have been added to the fleet in recent months, further strengthening the country’s public transport network.
