Sri Lanka and Palestine have reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and expressed a commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the diplomatic, economic, educational, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
According to the Representative Office of Sri Lanka in Ramallah, Sri Lanka’s Representative to Palestine, Farook Mohamed Fawzer, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Dr. Laila Ghannam, at the Governorate headquarters on Monday (07).
During the meeting, Fawzer reiterated Sri Lanka’s decades-long support for the Palestinian cause and its commitment to multilateral efforts aimed at upholding international law and achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
He also expressed Sri Lanka’s interest in reinitiating the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Institute Project in Ramallah, highlighting its potential to support youth empowerment and skills development.
Fawzer reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and humanitarian assistance, particularly for people affected by the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Discussing economic cooperation, Fawzer briefed Governor Ghannam on Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and emphasized the importance of strengthening engagement with PalTrade and Palestinian Chambers of Commerce to promote business-to-business partnerships, tourism and greater market access.
Governor Ghannam thanked Sri Lanka for its longstanding political and humanitarian solidarity with Palestine, recalling the historic ties established during the era of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
She welcomed expanded cooperation in trade, development and other areas for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, vocational training, cultural exchanges and people-to-people relations, further strengthening the longstanding bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Palestine.
