Sajith Holds Special Meeting with MPs Representing Northern, Eastern and Plantation Communities

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today held a special meeting with opposition parliamentarians representing the Northern and Eastern provinces and plantation communities to discuss the pressing social and economic challenges faced by people in these areas.

The meeting was held at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Parliament, where Premadasa sought detailed updates from MPs on the impact of the current economic situation on families in their respective communities.

The discussions focused on the rising cost of living, declining household incomes and difficulties faced due to inadequate basic infrastructure.

MPs also highlighted concerns related to access to quality healthcare and education, as well as issues surrounding child nutrition. The meeting emphasized the long-standing social and economic challenges affecting communities and the need for practical measures to improve their living standards.

Premadasa stressed the importance of maintaining continuous attention to these issues both inside and outside Parliament. He called for greater coordination among opposition MPs to gather information from communities at the grassroots level and formulate solutions based on the actual needs of the people.

The meeting was attended by opposition MPs K.S. Kugathasan, M.A.M. Taheer, Dr. E. Srinath, K. Kodeeswaran, G. Srineshan, M.S.U. Lebbe, A. Adikkalanathan, Dr. P. Sathiyalingam, K. Kader Mastan, Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, Mujibur Rahuman and Rishad Bathiudeen.

Premadasa reiterated that the Opposition would continue to prioritize the genuine concerns of the people and work collectively to ensure those issues are addressed through parliamentary action and broader advocacy.
