The accused, including Naufer Mawlawi, were brought before the Hulftsdorp High Court this morning as the long-awaited verdict in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks case is scheduled to be delivered today.
The case, filed by the Attorney General, involves 24 accused facing more than 23,270 charges, including allegations of conspiracy and aiding and abetting in connection with the 2019 bombings.
A total of 2,309 complainants provided evidence during the trial.
The verdict is to be delivered by a three-member High Court bench comprising Justices Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanadan Kannan and Sujeewa Nishshanka.
Special police security teams have been deployed around the Hulftsdorp court complex to maintain security and order during the proceedings.
The examination of evidence in the trial concluded on August 24, following which the three-judge bench announced that its verdict would be delivered today.
