The International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) is observed annually on September 28, highlighting the fundamental importance of access to information in building inclusive, informed and democratic societies.
Recognizing the significance of universal access to information, the 74th United Nations General Assembly proclaimed September 28 as the International Day for Universal Access to Information at the UN level in October 2019.
The day was initially proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference in 2015, following the adoption of Resolution 38 C/57, which declared September 28 of every year as the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
UNESCO provides a platform for stakeholders to participate in international discussions on policies related to access to information, particularly in the digital era.
