The motion filed by the Attorney General was taken up before the Court of Appeal today (29) before a bench comprising Justices Mayadunne Corea and Lakmali Karunanayake.
Gnanasara Thera was not present in court when the matter was called.
President’s Counsel Anura Meddegoda, appearing on behalf of the Thera, informed court that his client was resting due to illness. He requested additional time to study the Attorney General’s motion and make submissions.
However, State Counsel Sajith Bandara, appearing for the Attorney General, pointed out that the matter relates to a criminal case and requested that a warrant be issued if the accused fails to appear before court.
Following the request by the defence counsel for additional time, the Court of Appeal adjourned the proceedings for a short period.
